Laptop Support Structure
Personal Project — July-August 2020
I purchased a new laptop back in early 2020, but it had an issue with hinge stability when writing on it in tablet form. I decided to make the Laptop Support Structure to solve this issue. I modelled the parts in SolidWorks and printed them out on my Ender 3 Pro using PLA, and added a rubber coating. I took the opportunity to practice the iterative design process and consulted with people around me to get feedback on possible improvements.
Product design process
I started off by producing a small prototype of the design using some cardboard and hot glue I had laying around. I then took some measurements to scale up the prototype, and refined the design to match the style of my laptop. I printed a miniature version of the product to test the rubber coating. When all went well, I made some final improvements, printed the full-sized product, and sprayed on the coating.

Along the way I had some issues with the printer's printing profile, but it was quickly resolved. This project was a great exercise in my ability to create functional parts in SolidWorks, and it also solved the stability issue!
