Monster Desk Lamp
September-October 2016
I designed and built a monster-shaped desk lamp for one of my high school engineering courses. It has two arms that can move and be independently lit/unlit, as well as a main switch in the back that connects to a standard US outlet.
I began by sketching a few different designs, then created some cardboard templates, carved out the desired shape, and finished by implementing the wiring and lighting. The lamp was constructed with pink insulation foam, plaster, and miscellaneous electronics.

This project, being one of my first official ones, taught me some valuable lessons about the engineering design process. I learned about the effective nature of planning as well as the necessity of adaptability, how to solder, and a bit of introductory electronics.
